Residents of Ikorodu North LGA on Thursday 14th of March came out in their numbers to express their grievances with a protest at the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC).
The protesters, numbering about 40, complained bitterly about the unsatisfactory electricity distribution and other anomalies in Laiye Ode and Mopelufa LCDAs amongst others.
According to them, the situation has affected artisans, traders and home workers and it has led to loss of jobs, slow growth of their various businesses, and affected their overall comfort as residents.
In an interview with The Daily Report, Mr Ademola Olumegbon a resident of one of the CDAs said: “we have just one transformer that feeds about 10 LCDAs and the light isn’t constant because it is shared and doesn’t last 30 minutes before it goes off.”
He also alleged that this has been happening for some years and they have written many letters to the management but none has been honoured.
“We have been maintaining our transformer, buying poles, buying service wires and paying the organisation for workmanship but all efforts have been futile,” Olumegbon said.
“Despite the efforts, the IKEDC still brings exorbitant bills” said Wasiu Adebiyi, another resident of the community, adding that each house in the community pays at least seven thousand naira monthly (N7000) without enjoying the benefit of electricity, hence the reason for their protest.
The protesters pleaded with the government to come to their aid while urging IKEDC to fix their transformer and bring prepaid meters to the community.
