The governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, has said that his administrations is ensuring that schools in the state keep to standards while providing quality education to their students.
“We are constantly training and retraining our teachers, particularly as it relates to Information and Communications Technology to make them equipped for the challenges of today’s global economy,” he said on Tuesday (10 March) in a statement to commission projects at the Air Force Military School and the Air Force Girls Military School, both in Jos.
“The welfare of our teachers has equally received prominence, as we have remained consistent in paying salaries of teachers and giving them other incentives. My administration believes that only a motivated teacher can give his or her best yo impacting knowledge,” he added.
The day’s projects included accommodations for officers, Airmen and Airwomen; a newly constructed military wing, obstacle course and street lights in the Air Force School’s premises situated in the Rayfield area.
“Without a doubt, these projects are a huge investment for the future of our society, as the students as the students that are being trained today will run the affairs of the country in the coming years,” Lalong said, commending the Chief of Air Staff – Air Marshall Sadique Baba Abubakar – for seeing to it that all Air Force schools in the country achieve a conducive learning environment.
Governor Lalong also noted that his administration is paying equal attention to technical education in line with the vision of encouraging sustainable economic growth through entrepreneurship and skills development that will create more jobs and innovators in the state.
“We are currently constructing and upgrading three technical schools in the three Senatorial Districts located in Pankshin, Shendam and Bukuru. These, we believe, will train both students and even workers with relevant skills for business and self-reliance.
“Our legacy projects are largely driven by the construction of international-standard schools across the three Senatorial districts. On completion, these landmark schools will change the face of education in the state.
“The children of the poor, particularly those who are gifted, will be given access so that we can nurture their gifts and talents as well as work towards projecting them to the global stage.”
