Reactions have continued to trail the letter from Former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President Muhammadu Buhari where the former President attempted to draw attention to happenings in the country.

Guests on The Daily Report on Tuesday night, reacted to the release of a 13-page statement, in which Chief Obasanjo called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019.

In a press statement entitled, “The Way Out: A Clarion Call for Coalition for Nigeria Movement” Chief Obasanjo said President Buhari has performed far below expectation and should honourably “dismount from the horse” and join the league of Nigeria’s former leaders whose “experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the side line for the good of the country.”

Nelson Ekujumi and Emeka Madunagu during the Daily Report discussion

One of the guests, Mr Nelson Ekujumi said the letter was empty despite the number of pages because “Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is not the right person to write such letters given his antecedents and disrespect for the Rule of Law”

He chided the former President Olusegun Obasanjo for describing the distribution of the Trader Moni as idiotic calling it an assault on the sensibilities of poor Nigerians.

The other Guest, Mr Emeka Madunagu disagreed with the distribution of the Trader Moni to people in urban areas, asking why people in rural areas have not benefited from the scheme. He described the distribution of N10,000 to people in rural Areas by Vice president Yemi Osinbajo as “Vote-Buying’ and “Bribery”.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to this letter that has gone viral, vowing to teach ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo “and his co-travellers” a political lesson they will never forget.

A statement presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, accused the former president of being hostile to leaders he has no control over.

The statement described him as someone who lacks the moral standing to criticize his administration.
