The Presidency has distanced itself from calls by senior advocate of Nigeria, Chief Robert Clarke for the extension of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration by another six months.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, made the Presidency’s position known in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.

He restated that President Buhari would handover to democratically elected winners of the forthcoming 2023 general elections on May 29, 2023.

Garba Shehu stressed that the Buhari administration was committed to extending and entrenching democratic values across the country.

He noted that respect for the constitution and Nigerians’ democratic rights remain the best path to securing and maintaining peace.
